She told me she wanted to be a unicorn. That’s right. Not ride one. Not be photographed with one. To BE one. So, we made her a unicorn. 🙂
I love this session at one of my favorite Northville, MI locations, with one of my favorite people – my own daughter – in a session styled by her. It’s like that quote from Jerry Maguire. Yeah, you know what I’m about to say. “I will not rest until I have you holding a Coke, wearing your own shoe, playing a Sega game featuring you, while singing your own song in a new commercial, starring you, broadcast during the Superbowl in a game that you are winning.”
So, here she is, my unicorn dreamer, in a photo session, planned by her, designed by her, styled by her, at a location of her choosing, in a costume she accessorized. 🙂
Since we all know that rainbows and unicorns go together like Jerry Maguire and Tom Cruise (btw…man that is an old movie and it’s really showing my age), she wanted a rainbow tail, a rainbow leotard (which, sadly, is no longer in stock on amazon), and a rainbow unicorn horn. Except, the fabric store was fresh out of rainbow felt squares, so it was a beautifully styled rainbow tie-dye unicorn horn instead. This fab unicorn horn tutorial by Nikki Wells at Tikkido was perfect for our project. Her felt flower tutorial she references in that same post is also excellent. I managed to create the horn, three flowers, and a bunch of leaves out of one sheet of felt. Craftie Photog Tip: If you go looking for this at your own fabric store, it is in the craft section and not anywhere near fabric! 🙂
Any tulle tutu skirt tutorial will give you directions for making this elastic waistband tutu. I added lots of extra fluff in the back for a tail. She loved how it bounced and floated in the wind! She added her own wrist cuffs made out of ribbon. That was all her own idea!
A perfect afternoon in July and these creamy, dreamy fields were just the place for this outdoor photography session. I loved bringing her dream to life!
THANKS FOR LOOKING!
Oh my goodness…this is the cutest session! Great images and such a sweet little girl!
