It was our normal, everyday Thursday at ballet. I love all the mamas I get to see on that evening. They are real, hard-working, fabulous people who deal with the same struggles as me. We share laughs, challenges, sweet stories, and 60 minutes where we have only one child to look after. So, this sweet mama says, “What sort of backdrops do you have? I have this idea.”
Let me pause for a minute, I LOVE when this gal has an idea. She brings me her Pinterest inspiration and we run with it. I’ve gotten to create beautiful, fabulous, fun, and exciting maternity photos AND newborn pictures for her. So, when she said “I have this idea” I knew that we were going to have some fun.
She showed me a sweet, prop-heavy, very creative Super Hero first birthday photo session. She wanted it all–the skyline, the cake smash, and, of course, a cute one-year-old with a cape!!!! As we sat, with that super perky song from the 90s, mmmbop, blaring in the background, we brainstormed how to bring this idea to life.
A few weeks later – all good props take time – I got to work with my brother, who has partnered with me on these killer handcrafted barn doors for my Christmas sessions and the incredible lemonade stand. On our trip to Home Depot we found some beautiful wood. It was so beautiful that I couldn’t possibly paint it. He handed me the saw and the ear protection and I created this awesome skyline – based loosely on the one that scrolls when my Roku hibernates. I love having a chance to work on a project with my brother. While I built the skyline, he worked on a top-secret project for Sharon Hoeg Photography.
The final result is super cute! And this sweet boy celebrated his birthday in style with a not-quiet-as-messy-as-I-thought cake smash and a party pile of balloons.
I love the twist we put on this pinterest-inspired photo shoot.
Thanks for looking!!!
