This little series about Valentine’s Day has everything I love in one place: well-loved stuffed animals, two sweet sisters, and chocolate.
My two girls stepped in front of the camera for this mini session. They loved playing with the props and eating the candy most of all. It was a bribe. Let’s face it. When your mom is a photographer, the candy is the best part of the deal because you are probably tired of having your picture taken.
While we were shooting, I asked them what they loved about each other. My oldest said, “I love that I can call her names……like Gumdrop or Baby Penguin….get it?” She is sooooo silly. My youngest said, “because she likes penguins.” I love these well-thought out answers.
I used to call this day “Stinky Love Day,” but now that I share it with three people who make me crazy happy. Now, I enjoy celebrating a little – except that ill-fated attempt at making heart shaped bacon to go with our super romantic meal of “breakfast for dinner.”
This year we celebrated with a candy table, full of treats and handmade decorations. Our favorite stuffies attended. The inimitable Little Penguin made an appearance. He yak yakked for a while! My youngest brought her blanket. We giggled our way through the afternoon, overdosed on chocolate, and enjoyed being together. My nephews stopped by and joined us too. Everyone got in on the fun and tried on silly glasses and funny headbands. The four kids together are trouble. They laughed over the silly sayings on the conversation hearts. Try to explain those to a five-year-old sometime! They argued over who had the most m&ms! But, it all ended in laughter and smiles as they ran off to play with legos. To me, this is what Valentine’s Day is all about: Celebrating Love and Laughter with the people you care about the most. Oh, and chocolate.
